The Falconets line up before the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2014 final match between Nigeria and Germany at Olympic Stadium on August 24, 2014 in Montreal, Canada.
This match was a repeat of 2010 FIFA U-20 Final, and was a real clash of styles and football cultures.
Nigeria showed superior physical shape. The team gained advantage and dominated the first half, creating good chances, but missing them.

Germany battle for the ball during the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2014 final
on August 24, 2014 in Montreal, Canada.
The biggest disappointment was the top scorer of the
tournament Asisat Oshoala. The in-form striker, who had scored four times in
the 1/2-final win over Korea DPR, missed at least two golden opportunities in
the first half.
In the next 45 minutes the teams continued to exchange
blows. Germany played well and also wasted several good chances.
About five minutes remaining in the match the Falconets
scored a goal and were about to start celebrations. Unfortunately, the
assistant referee’s flag indicated that the goal was scored from an offside.
This was not the only disallowed goal during the match.
The match went to 15+15 extra time. The German team did not
wait for long, scored the title-winning goal on the 98th minute. There was a
fault by Nigeria’s defense. Bremer won the ball, cut back for Lena Pietermann
and Sandra Chiichii was forced to take the ball out of the net.

against goalkeeper Sandra Chiichii of Nigeria during the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s
World Cup final in Canada.
It would be noted that Chiichii’s counterpart, the German
goalkeeper, Meike Kamper, was again named player of the match. The Bundes team
has not conceded a single goal during the whole tournament.

Cup 2014 final match between Nigeria and Germany at Olympic Stadium on August
24, 2014 in Montreal, Canada.
The Falconets were unable to respond. Germany defended well
and was crowned the champions of the world.
It would be recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan in a
telephone conversation promised to welcome Nigeria’s team at Aso Rock. Do you
think he shall keep the promise, taking to consideration the fact that the
girls return home with silver?
